Overview
Malls can be overwhelming for shoppers, with hundreds of stores, restaurants, and entertainment options to choose from.
There is a lack of a comprehensive and user-friendly solution that provides all the necessary information of the mall in one place. Customers face difficulties in finding the exact stores they are looking for in a mall, and often miss out on discounts and sales. Additionally, finding good places to eat or movies to watch with good ratings is a time-consuming and cumbersome process.
Thus, there is a need for a centralized platform that offers a seamless experience for finding stores with discounts, places to eat, and movies with ratings.
Research
Survey Questions:
- How do users currently navigate and find things to do in a mall?
- What are the pain points users face while finding discounts in stores, places to eat, and movies with ratings?
- What features do users expect from an app that helps them find things to do in a mall?
- What is the most effective way to present information about stores, restaurants, and movies to users?
Methodology:
To answer these research questions, I conducted survey. I recruited participants who frequently visit malls and asked them to share their experiences of finding discounts, places to eat, and movies in a mall.
Research Insights:
- Users find it difficult to navigate malls and locate stores, especially if they are unfamiliar with the mall layout.
- Users struggle to find discounts in stores as they are often not displayed prominently.
- Users expect an app to provide comprehensive information about stores, restaurants, and movies, including ratings, reviews, and prices.
- Users prefer a simple and intuitive app interface that allows them to easily browse and filter stores, restaurants, and movies.
Design Solutions
Based on the research insights, I designed an app that addresses the pain points users face while finding things to do in a mall. The app includes the following features:
- Restaurant and movie search: Users can search for restaurants or movies based on criteria such as cuisine, price range, genre, and ratings.
- Ratings: Users can view ratings for restaurants and movies to make informed decisions.
- Promotions and discounts: The app highlights promotions and discounts for stores, restaurants, and movies to incentivize users to make a purchase.
Usability Testing:
In order to validate the designs, I conducted usability testing. The testing was done on a prototype of the app. The goal of the testing was to observe how users interact with the app and gather feedback on the overall user experience.
During the testing, I noticed that users were confused about the information of shopping, movies, and food places. To address this issue, I decided to add a separate screen for shopping, movies, and food places.
Insights:
- Users found it difficult to navigate through the app to find information about shopping, movies, and food places.
- Adding a separate screen for each category improved the overall user experience and made it easier for users to find what they were looking for.
Conclusion:
Designing an app that helps users find discounts in stores, places to eat, and movies with ratings in a mall requires a deep understanding of user needs and expectations. By conducting user research, I was able to identify pain points and design solutions that make it easier for users to find things to do in a mall.
The resulting app provides a seamless and personalized shopping experience, making it easier for users to enjoy their time at the mall.
